Day 9

Today was my first day at the 40 Days for Life Vigil this session - what a beautiful day to be there!

I walked up and saw this, minus the winter coat...

Now this beautiful man, ladies and gentlemen, is Bill. I love Bill. The other woman standing vigil with me referred to him as an "angel" and I believe that this could be true. He does always seem to have the right thing to say or do or even just be to help out the situation.

Every time I see him I say "Hi, Bill, how are you?" and he says, "It's the best day of my life. I woke up and said, 'God, take me today and send me to do whatever work you need to further your kingdom.' How can you have a better day than that?" How, indeed?

He has stated on many occasions that he is there as often as possible (at the vigil) because 1. The vigil is staffed mainly by Catholics and he needs to represent for his religious denomination (he doesn't say this in a negative way, btw) and 2. because the women that go into the clinic need to see an African American male presence so that they rethink what they are doing.

It was a long day for me and my shift was 2-3 PM. I also, because I never look at my calendar these days, signed up to do the 24-hour-liquid-fast for 40 days today. So, I'm tired and hungry and a bit on edge as I walk up to Planned Parenthood expecting one kind of abuse or another (or indifference at the least). Instead, I received God's goodness in the form of Bill. I am so very blessed!

  1. Nice post. I love Bill's words.

  2. I love Bill! He would make an hour of standing in front off PP more tolerable, though God always pours out blessings for those praying.
