You say goodbye...but I say hello

The last few weeks have been full of changes around here. Even when the change is a sad one, I feel thankful for the opportunity. I have begun to realize that change helps me to grow.

Goodbye Not-The-Mommy-Car

This year, instead of driving to retreat with the top down, I will most likely be bouncing my way along in the Jeep. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. The problem with a 10+ year old vehicle is that it needs a personal mechanic. Alas, we are fresh out of those :(

Hello Homeschooling

We've (OK, I've) been agonizing about this for a few years. I think I had some "signs" that I required before actually taking the leap. This was the year that they all fell into place. We are blessed to have a wonderful Catholic homeschooling community in the South Hills and we are all very excited about the process. I feel about as ready as I can be. I think it's a little bit like parenting. You can read all about it but it doesn't become real until your first child arrives.

Officially we began our year on July 16th, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I pray that Our Lady can guide me through this process and help me to be a good first teacher for our children. It feels to me like the right decision. It is so important to me to keep this family together for a while longer before society takes up most of their time. I want the base to be a little more well-formed before they begin to build. More on this later.

Field Trip!!!

One of the BEST parts of homeschooling (after no bus/pickup and no goodie bag expectations) is the ability to pickup and follow dad all around the state while we learn civics, geography and history.

First stop - Philadelphia and the Liberty Bell. Granted, 2nd grade and Kindergarten means we're at the very simplest level of understanding. Still, it was exciting to see and discuss and read books and color.

Look - Benjamin Franklin!

Can't wait to find out where we're headed next!

  3. Wow - I didn't know you were considering homeschooling. Hope things go well this year. I'll surely be tapping you for wisdom somewhere down the line. Poor kids, though - you're making them start school in the middle of summer!! haha

  4. You go girl. Matthew starts K in Sept at our parish school and I have no peace with it even though the parish is a good one. What kind of signs, thoughts went into your decision?
