Passing on the truth

It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of social media...it's too quick and too easy to just make judgments about all sorts of things and everyone, everyone gets to have their say...informed or not. Still, if you happen to have an account, perhaps you can pass along this article.

http://townhall.com/tipsheet/leahbarkoukis/2016/06/15/liberals-puzzled-by-chickfilas-act-of-kindness-toward-gay-community-after-orlando-shooting-n2178128

Yes, that's right, all the gay haters at Chick-fil-a in Orlando opened their doors on God's day to do God's work...show support and compassion for those recovering from the nightclub shooting.

Life is full of froth and bubble, folks. Let's try to at least pass on good news when we see it (and if there is some spin out there that makes this underhanded in some way...please ignore it.) Satan is strong but God is stronger. Call on Him.

We are blessed.

The rain falls on the just and the unjust.

I try to be the former and often end up the latter. No matter, Whomever I am today, the rain fell on me.

You see, of all the days this month (has it rained once or twice in 25 days?) today was the day my van was in the shop. The check engine light has been on forever and, well, the snow tires are still on. Not only is there no rain these days, there is definitely no snow!

So, no problem. Walk the kids to VBS, get in a little run, walk back at noon, walk to swim lessons, etc...perfect plan but today it rained. A lot. For some reason, the bad drivers also seem to come out in the rain. Let me explain.

We walked up without too much incident and arrived at the Scott intersection. We waited and began to cross at the light when we had the crosswalk sign. Thanks to God #1 son was not running ahead as usual or you would all be praying for him...a car came through the light about 3 full seconds on the red. A great lesson for city kids to pay attention to lights AND cars but still more than a little nerve wracking. So, you can give me a pass (here's where I'm unjust) when I got up in a lady's window when she did the same thing on our trip home (except she managed to stop directly in the crosswalk). I had to. She was very busy with her texting/Facebook so it took a minute to get her attention. If you are reading this and text/Facebook while you're in the car (don't say "only at red lights" because you always finish as you're pulling away, right?) please stop now. If you know people who do this, tell them to stop. For the sake of my family, I beg you.

Down from my soapbox now. Here is the trip in between almost being run over... We made it to church and dropped the older three off, just as the rain began. I tried to get into church but, with a double stroller and only one door unlocked, no such luck. So, we hung out for ten minutes under the archway and watched the rain and the people.

I would have stayed a lot longer and watched the rain but, as you can see from the cute knees, I had passengers that were getting antsy. So, we rigged up our contraption and headed out. Do you think the lady on Facebook was slightly distracted that she didn't notice the giant hot pink orb directly in front of her?

So, we are home and have 2 hours to dry before heading out again. I am giving thanks to God and our guardian angels for protecting us on our journey. How blessed we are to be so well watched-over. Have a blessed, if soggy, day.

Happy Feast Day(s)!

We are lucky enough to have two feast days within one week at our household. This week is always one big party!

St. Dominic was first - chocolate pudding pies for dessert followed by the family rosary.

Next up - Santa Chiara - strawberry shortcake and little one carrying hosts around from the Mass kit.

It is such a blessing to learn about those Saints who have gone before us. The extra desserts don't hurt a bit either ;0)

I just realized that this is my 100th post. It's been almost 8 months since I left Facebook in hopes of living a happier, less self-and-other-critical life. I know I still rant (did any of you know my dad?)
and, given the upcoming election, I reserve the right to continue to rant on occasion.

Truthfully, though, the peace in my heart is a wonderful gift. Thanks for following along with me. I'm grateful for the trials and blessings of those eight months. God willing, I will still be here eight months from now, rambling on about one thing or another :0)

Fleeing Facebook

OK, so I've decided I'm over Facebook. While I have enjoyed reconnecting with some of the people of my youth, generally, it's been a time and psychological drain for me. I have spent way too much time getting agitated about things that matter not and clearly I don't have all that much time to waste. It has been interesting to watch interactions and comments but, again, time better spent elsewhere.

Also, I have to admit, the whole "friend" thing confuses me. I'm probably just weird but a "friend" is not someone I follow on Facebook. Friends, to me, are people with whom you share things in person - intimate and integral parts of your life. That takes time. That doesn't happen often. Well, it doesn't happen often for me. Aside from my family, I'm guessing I have less than 10 true friends in my life. If that is accurate, I consider myself to be truly blessed. One or two true friends in a lifetime is all I would have hoped to find. As I said, friendship to me is something that takes a great deal of time and work to achieve. This doesn't mean that casual friends are a bad thing. That's where lifelong friends come from, right? Facebook, however, seems to create a false intimacy and, at least in my experience, people you barely know treat you in a way I would reserve for only family and the closest friends. Perhaps that's because of all the "sharing" that goes on? Who knows. It was beginning to creep me out so I decided to stop.

So, instead of Facebook, I'm going to try my hand at blogging. It's funny because just a few months ago I chastised a Facebook "friend" about blogging. What types of egos do this sort of thing, I wondered aloud? Does anyone really think many people care what they have to say? Yes, I am extremely uneducated on many things but that doesn't usually keep me from expressing an opinion (working on it). Thankfully, over those same few months, I have begun to read some blogs that have really inspired me and made me think. I am reforming my opinion (obviously) and joining the ranks of the bloggers. I will endeavor to keep my rants to a minimum (or at least to things about which I know somethng). My spelling and grammar are horrific so be warned. Perhaps, if nothing else, it will catch you up on things in our household. Please don't let this be a reason to not visit, call, write or email. That would completely defeat the purpose.

You may also realize by now that I'm a stream-of-consciousness writer. That may or may not work for you. I can't really help it and judging by the amount of sleep I've been getting, I fear it will not be improving anytime soon.

That's it. Little people are sleeping but that won't last long so dinner is the next task.  Off I go :)
